January 8–March 28, 2027

This winter, the ancient Japanese art form of bonsai gets a California touch as Sonoma Botanical Garden presents The Bonsai Show: East Meets West! This year’s all-new presentation spotlights the dramatic beauty of works created with California native plants. Visitors will marvel at the miniature majesty of redwoods intricately shaped into graceful, living sculptures, as well as tiny, natural scenes created using California juniper, coast live oak, and other familiar favorites.

Celebrating California native trees through the contemplative art of bonsai, The Bonsai Show: East Meets West ! showcases the very distinctive forms, textures, and character of local flora. Nearly twenty works will be on view that reveal familiar California trees in an entirely new way. These include outstanding examples using native coastal redwood, Mendocino pygmy cypress, oak, and Sierra and California junipers.
